My mother, Sarah loved recipes. This is one of her favorite recipes, written by her from her vast recipe collection.  She passed away in June, 2001

Bugaboo Gingerbread

3/4 c. Bacon Fat or Lard

1 c. Sugar

2 Eggs

1 c. Dark Molasses

3 c. All Purpose Flour

2 tsp. Baking Soda

1 tsp. Ground Ginger

1 tsp. Milk

Sweetened Whipped Cream

Chopped Candied Ginger

Cream bacon fat with sugar until light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each. Beat in molasses. Mix dry ingredients together and add alternately with buttermilk to first mixture, beating until smooth. Pour in oven (350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Cut in squares and serve warm with whipped cream and a sprinkling of candied ginger or serve cold. makes 12 servings.
